Constitutive session of the government group for coordinating preparatory activities for the JEK2 project
At the constitutive session today, the working group of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for coordinating preparatory activities for the JEK2 project convened. This project represents the largest national strategic investment in low-carbon sources of electrical energy.
The establishment of the working group is a step towards examining the possibilities of whether nuclear technology, through new construction, can be part of the solution for Slovenia’s power system to address the climate crisis, emphasized the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Robert Golob, after the session. The purpose of the working group is to adequately prepare all necessary foundations for the high-quality and informed decision-making of citizens regarding the support for the JEK2 project. Its task will also be to explore how, through special legislation, to achieve a new nuclear facility in the fastest and economically most optimal way, the Prime Minister explained.
The State Secretary for the National Nuclear Program, Danijel Levičar, then presented the composition of the working group, which, in addition to seven key ministries for the project (Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy, Ministry of Natural Resources and Space, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sports, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Labor, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities), also includes GEN Energy as the investor, NEK due to mutual impacts with JEK2, and ELES as the operator of the transmission system.
The CEO of GEN Energy, Dr. Dejan Paravan, and the project leader for JEK2, Dr. Bruno Glaser, attended the constitutive session. They presented the procedures and steps of GEN Energy to expedite the project, with a focus on preparing for an efficient spatial integration process, continuing the project according to the planned schedule, ensuring that the final investment decision is made no later than 2028.
